Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about the F-Gas certification course? We’ve got answers.
What is F-Gas certification and why do I need it?
F-Gas certification is a legal requirement under EU and UK regulations for anyone who handles fluorinated greenhouse gases (refrigerants). Without this qualification, it’s illegal to install, maintain, or service air conditioning and refrigeration equipment. The certification ensures you understand safe handling procedures and environmental responsibilities.
How long does my certificate last?
Your F-Gas certificate is valid for 5 years from the date of issue. After this period, you’ll need to complete a refresher course and re-assessment to renew your qualification. We’ll send you a reminder before your certificate expires.
Do I need any prior qualifications or experience?
No prior qualifications are required for our standard F-Gas course. However, having a background in plumbing, electrical work, or HVAC will help you progress more quickly. Complete beginners may benefit from our extended 5-day course which includes additional foundational training.
What does the assessment involve?
The assessment has two parts: a theory exam (completed online at our centre) and a practical assessment. The theory exam tests your knowledge of regulations, refrigerants, and safety procedures. The practical assessment requires you to demonstrate pipework skills, leak detection, recovery procedures, and system charging on our training equipment.
What happens if I fail the assessment?
Don’t worry – if you don’t pass on your first attempt, we offer one free re-sit within 3 months of your initial course. Our instructors will provide feedback and additional coaching to help you prepare. We have a very high pass rate (over 95%) so most candidates succeed on their first attempt.
Can I get funding or payment plans?
Yes, we offer flexible payment plans allowing you to spread the cost over 3-6 months. Some candidates may be eligible for funding through the Skills Funding Agency or apprenticeship schemes. Employers can also pay via invoice. Contact us to discuss the best option for your circumstances.
